Our designs for Mercer’s offices in Noida and GOSS Aravallis
embed the organization’s ethos into the workspace through visual narratives, universal fables and symbolic themes inspired by nature. These immersive environments reflect Mercer’s rich and multi-layered corporate philosophy, filtering the brand into people’s consciousness.

Noida Office
Mercer is a globally recognized leader in consulting for talent, health, retirement and investment. The firm’s people are its most vital asset. Over two floors of their Noida offices, in continuity with their Gurgaon facility we had designed earlier, we visualized enduring themes and experiential graphic content to reflect their value systems. In this award-winning design, staff, clients and visitors get inspired by the Mercer experience.

The Mercer Tree
We visualized The Mercer Tree, where every part of the tree symbolically represents the firm’s anchoring values. The Tree of Value sprung from its roots. The trunk was rendered as The Tree of Talent. The branches became Mercer’s areas of specialization as The Tree of Expertise. The Tree of Success was depicted as its fruits. Within the larger picture, miniature graphics illustrate the values in multiple ways.

In parallel, a team worked to complete the elaborate Mercer Tree in record time. Five printed artworks were spread across 53 sheets of beautifully textured custom-specified veneer. As fresh veneer is not completely seasoned, it curls. To overcome this problem, after printing, we weighed the veneer down with granite slabs to render them flat.

The Value Wall
The etched-glass multi-panels of the Value Wall interpret 5 classical stories that are popular worldwide: The Thirsty Crow, The Ant and the Grasshopper, The Hare and the Tortoise, The Lion and the Mouse and The Boy who cried Wolf.

Cafeteria
Spanning the cafeteria wall, ‘The World of Mercer’ consists of 305 curated selections from 42 countries, showcasing the global reach of Mercer and its rich and diverse community.  The culture, interests and uniqueness of every country were expressed through images of festivals, music, cinema and art. This made the café wall the hub of interesting conversations.

Breakout Areas
Two Mercer destinations on the “coffee route” are Istanbul and London - so, our concept for the break out areas tuned into the discovery of coffee. Employees feel as if they are stepping into a different country, sipping on coffee.  Visitors found it a refreshing change looking out into Venetian canals, or at the Champs-Élysées in Paris. Minute details such as miniature comics were also added to these large backdrops, making them interesting to discover.

Passage graphics - vantage point
The graphics in the passages engage with users in a dynamic manner through anamorphic effects that use the technique of projection mapping. Three-dimensional art painted across multiple surfaces appear as flat pictures at specific viewpoints. You see the picture, without distortion, on this imaginary plane. These graphics transform the corridors into immersive and experiential spaces.

The faceted entrance walls
We celebrated Mercer’s most vital asset - people, with the thought how every individual is unique, and people together create a spectacular picture. This multifaceted image of Mercer is depicted through two installations at the entrances of both levels of the offices. A two-dimensional tessellating pattern of almost a thousand triangular pieces of Dholpur stone of different sizes is created across a wall thirty feet long, eight feet high. The other installation, on a wall of similar size, is a many-faceted three-dimensional surface of pyramids and troughs made with veneer on a wooden backdrop.

Gym
The physical attributes of working out and staying fit is visualized in The Fitting Stretch, the gym at Mercer.

Our time-tested themes reach out directly, ensuring the longevity of the design. The successful blend of visual design, planning and storytelling, which was produced at a superior quality won us a CII Design Excellence Award in Environment Graphics in 2014.

GOSS Aravallis Office

Embracing nature
Situated in the backdrop of the low-lying Aravallis, the GOSS Aravallis office of Mercer is surrounded by a lush bio-diversity park. In continuity with the Mercer Noida, the directive was to create an enduring set of graphic narratives on a fresh theme. Motivated by the inspiring natural environs, we chose ‘water’ to establish a new perspective for Mercer.

Telling stories
A customer-oriented organization, Mercer takes great pride in its chief asset – its people. The corporate values are crisp directives that aim towards excellence and consistent performance. These had to be translated into immersive environments, where employees feel charged about making achievements.

Indian art and methods of storytelling employ a unique methodology, which allows the viewer to see a holistic picture from afar and other fascinating details up close. These jewel-boxed narratives have offered us the key to making immersive storytelling for the present context.

Bringing Mercer's ethos alive
“Through proven and powerful solutions built on creativity, a commitment to innovation and a belief that we can shape tomorrow, we are building a better future today.”

We embarked on Mercer’s above mission, in short “Make Tomorrow, Today” to explore Creativity, Innovation and Belief. With this we combined five proven qualities for success- Courage, Immersion, Passion, Endurance and Simplicity. Water as a theme was perfect to explore these qualities.

The power to transform
The fluid nature of water allows it to take many forms, from vapour and fluid to snow and ice. It takes shape as streams, rivers, waterfalls, lakes and the ocean. With this, the theme Making Waves gave rise to 16 super-graphics across floors. From Gandhi to Edison and Mandela to Malala Yousafzai, evocative stories and quotes pepper these super graphics, comparing people who ushered change with water’s power to transform.

The jewel-boxed narrative
Going closer, you find many stories within the waves. For example, in BELIEF - a man nurtures a tree with belief; Akbar and Birbal stand under an arbor in a picture of “Mutual belief and respect”. The stories are detailed out in an expansive way for people to discover different quotes or illustrations each time they walk by the corridors. Intrigued, they will return.

Triangles and waves
The system grows from two basic elements: the Mercer triangle and water waves. The  Corian wall at the reception and the copper plate wall are both geometric forms evolved from the triangle, engaging in a play of tonalities.

Materials and the message
The story of Mercer seamlessly flows out in many forms making it an immersive “ocean of experience”.

Two materials were selected for consistency in design - we used wood laminates and frosted glass. All super graphics are printed on the wood laminates. All passageways have frosted glass, with soothing patterns of water and waveforms. Keywords printed on the waves recall the operative imperatives of Mercer such as Mercer Pride and Operational Excellence.
