A turnover exceeding USD 3 billion. Redesigning the Murugappa Group identity called for a delicate balance, evoking its century-old legacy to resonate on a modern platform. The energetic new brand logo was launched on September 2010 in Chennai by the group.

The challenge for the designers, was to contemporise the peacock, an indelible sign of the group holding up its heritage and values. A pan-India study commissioned by the group, reviewing its near-term growth plans, revealed that while the group was recognised for its ethical business practice, its diverse businesses were not known. We had to bring long-term recall, simultaneously projecting Murugappa for future generations.

The specially created logotype for murugappa has soft curves in the typography, inspired by the rounded curves of Dravidian scripts. The unique lowercase script makes a simple and elegant impression.
